MEET LAURA

Laura Deems (b. 1994) is a contemporary abstract artist based in Birmingham, AL. The foundation of her artistic practice is derived from her formal training in dyeing fabrics, weaving patterns, and screen printing. Laura Deems’ oeuvre has been built with an evolving vocabulary of composition, mark making and color. The creation of pattern, gesture and movement are what drive her work. In Laura’s effort to ‘free the motif from the grid,’ each work is uniquely created as a loose interpretation of pattern.

Laura has been a part of several solo and group exhibitions at galleries across the U.S., including Hidell Brooks Gallery, Florida Mining Gallery, Meyer Vogl Gallery, and ARDEN + WHITE GALLERY, where she is currently represented. Laura’s work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Veranda, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, Luxe, and Garden & Gun.
